Chemlab, Cyanotic, Haloblack.Īggrotech is a sub genre of electro-industrial, it has that distinct vocal style a lot of the time where it has a sorta death metally growl fed through heavy voice effects and is usually a faster form of EBM. Then you’ve got Coldwave which embraces the more electronic side while still being pretty rocky. Industrial rock and metal would be good definers for groups like KMFDM, NIN, Ministry. Einstürzende Neubauten came around in the second wave in the 80’s but embraced that sound quite literally with the insane amount of found instruments. Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, SPK, Test Dept., Coil are your usual suspects. Industrial in its purest original form is anything that was on Industrial Records or inspired by acts involved with them back in the day and were making a lot of music using found instruments and and the like. Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb are two of the best examples imo. I’ve noticed a lot of groups that used to make powernoize under labels like Ant-Zen and Hymen Records such as Hypnoskull make industrial techno these days.ĮBM, or Electronic Body Music, is like industrial but much more synth driven. Which brings us to industrial techno which is a newer sub genre and you can find that kinda stuff from producers like Andy Stott, Surgeon, JK Flesh, Orphx, etc. I’d say techno shared a similar goal and vibe with the alienating machine sound that industrial creates, but they’ve definitely got their own distinct sounds which blur lines at times. Then there’s a bunch of others like Tim Hecker, Justus Köhncke, Shed, Perc, Kink, Markus Suckut, etc. You’ve got dub techno from acts like Redshape, ambient techno like Bvdub, minimal techno like Matthew Dear, hardcore techno/gabber like Neophyte and Rotterdam Terror Corps, and more.
